Inspiration

http://www.angelasexpressions.etsy.com
Recently, I was reminded by Patience Brewster, the artist behind these adorable Christmas ornaments, that August is Artist Appreciation Month! I thought I would do a post about who/what inspires my work to celebrate. I have given it a lot of thought over the past several days and come to the conclusion that color is probably my biggest inspiration. I get so excited when I squeeze new paint onto my palette and working with fun colors is almost like a therapeutic experience.
I not only like to create art, but I love admiring others work as well. I seem to be particularly drawn to loose, colorful watercolors. I have always thought of color, especially in paintings, to be healing in some way. I have been known to soak up the beauty in paintings in galleries and in nature that invoke a positive emotion in me. What I hope to achieve is create works of art that cause others to feel something, like I do when I'm admiring a really beautiful painting or taking in a breathtaking scene. And, in a way, this extends to my quilts and other handmade items as well. I love the way handmade quilts, decorative items, and artwork make a home feel.
So, in general, I am inspired by color and the beauty around me. If I can put that love into my work in a way that extends to the person admiring it, I have done my job. :)

A Break

I felt like bringing a little beauty to my blog today! It has been so cloudy and rainy this past week. Bring out the sunshine! Actually the sun made a brief appearance today, but that's it.
I wish I had a completed painting to share today, but I don't. I just completed my last final, and all my other homework. I've been working non-stop on this big research paper, and it feels so good to have it done!! It feels great to have everything done :). Now I have 4 whole weeks off! This is the biggest break that we get at my school. Normally we only have a week and a half off in between quarters, and that just isn't long enough! So, I am very happy that I can just focus on painting for a few weeks! How wonderful!
I have started my "heavymetal" painting which is from Day 4 of Creativity Boot Camp. I plan to work on it tomorrow, hopefully finish it, and get it posted. I may also post pictures of a project I've been working on..... :) Have a lovely evening!

Update

I can't believe it's been over a month since I last posted! Oops! :) I've been on break from school, and I had every intention of spending as much time in the studio as possible when I was on break, but that just hasn't happened. I went to Michigan for a week to visit family and since I returned I haven't been able to get my head out of a book! I've been a reading fool. :) I do have some ideas for some more cigar boxes (possibly with inspiring quotes as well as little paintings), and some new watercolor paintings as well.

I spent a couple days up in Mackinac, Michigan on my vacation and took a ton of pictures! (literally over a 1000 pictures), and so I have some great inspiration for some new paintings. I just need to get them printed out. :)

I'm going to be making a special post about a book that really touched my heart. If you're interested, the book is called, "The Shack" by, William Paul Young.
